About Long-Term Care Physician Opportunities in Richmond

The Richmond Long-Term Care Initiative (LTCI) offers an exceptional pathway for family physicians seeking meaningful roles in care homes across Richmond, BC. Designed and coordinated by the Richmond Division of Family Practice, this initiative enables physicians to partner with local care-homes and deliver high-quality medical care in a sustainable practice environment.

Since its launch in May 2017, the program has responded to provincial challenges in staffing long-term care homes by establishing structured supports and clear expectations for participating physicians. Physicians in this initiative commit to a set of best-practice standards: ensuring 24/7 availability when required, performing proactive resident visits, conducting meaningful medication reviews, completing comprehensive documentation, and attending case conferences.

For physicians already practicing in Richmond, or those considering a move to the area, the LTCI presents a unique opportunity to integrate long-term care work into their practice portfolio. The initiative provides tangible supports for physicians, including after-hours call coverage for LTC residents, on-site and on-call physician leads, mentorship opportunities, and access to a physician community focused on long-term care.

By joining the Richmond LTCI, family physicians can expand their scope of practice, engage deeply with one of Richmond’s high-need sectors, and play a vital role in enhancing care delivery for long-term care residents. Whether you’re an established physician in Richmond or exploring new practice opportunities, this initiative offers a rewarding way to connect with the community and grow your practice in a supportive, structured environment.
